Mumbai: After years of delay, students and parents of a CBSE school in Govandi were finally hopeful as the construction of the long-pending access road neared completion. The project, which had been in discussion for over a decade, was seen as a major relief for families who have struggled with poor connectivity to the school. The new road is intended to provide a direct and safe entry route for hundreds of children who currently depend on longer, unsafe internal lanes. Parents have repeatedly complained about the inconvenience, traffic congestion, and safety risks students face while reaching the school every day.

However, just as the construction was moving towards completion, a fresh hurdle has emerged. According to local sources, the final stretch of the road passes through a piece of disputed land. This has led to fresh objections, slowing down the process once again.

Civic officials acknowledged the problem but assured that they are in discussions with concerned authorities to resolve the issue. “The road is nearly ready. Only a small portion is pending due to land-related complications. We are hopeful of finding a solution soon so that students can benefit from safe access to the school,” said an official. Residents of the area have also expressed mixed reactions. While most support the project as it improves connectivity, a section has raised concerns about the impact on nearby housing and open spaces.

For parents, however, the priority remains their children’s safety. “Every day, students are forced to walk through risky lanes. We have been waiting for this road for so long. The work should not stop now,” said one parent from Govandi. The school management too has urged civic bodies to speed up the process. With the new academic year approaching, they say completing the access road will bring much-needed relief not only to students but also to residents who face traffic snarls during school hours. While the road is nearly ready for use, the authorities’ ability to resolve the latest land hurdle will decide whether Govandi’s CBSE school finally gets the safe, direct access route it has been promised for years.
