Nagpur | October 2, 2025 – Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) celebrated its foundation day in Nagpur with grandeur, marking the beginning of its centenary year. Former President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, was the chief guest, while RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat also addressed the gathering.

In his keynote speech, Kovind underlined the values of equality, social justice and harmony, stating that caste-based discrimination and untouchability have no place in society. Drawing parallels between RSS founder Dr. K.B. Hedgewar and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, he emphasized that both leaders envisioned a united nation free from divisions.

“Where there is division, there is decline,” Kovind remarked, urging people to stay vigilant against divisive politics. He also recalled how Ambedkar had cautioned the Constituent Assembly about discrimination and said such concerns are in line with RSS’s emphasis on national unity.

Political Significance

Analysts note that Kovind’s presence and message from the RSS platform sends a strong signal of outreach to Dalit communities, a section where the BJP is keen to consolidate support. By highlighting Ambedkar and projecting RSS as inclusive, the event is seen as part of BJP’s broader strategy to counter criticism of being anti-Dalit.

This is not the first time BJP has attempted to reach out to Dalits through symbolic moves. Earlier, former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee had organized Dalit outreach rallies, which helped the party politically. Observers suggest Kovind’s appearance at this RSS event may benefit BJP in upcoming electoral battles.

Mohan Bhagwat’s Address

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, in his speech, reiterated the importance of unity and discipline. He said the RSS will continue working towards strengthening the nation’s cultural and social fabric.

The Foundation Day celebrations, with Kovind’s powerful endorsement of social harmony, are being read as a significant political statement at the start of RSS’s centenary year.
